Permanent access to the engine, where serving you another year costs us nothing. The copilot is not like that — every answer spends tokens — so it carries a monthly allowance rather than a promise we would have to break.
Why the limits are where they are
Almost all of this costs nothing to run twice. The metrics are arithmetic over data already on disk, so an extra portfolio or an extra calculation is not something worth charging for — and charging for it would contradict the onboarding, which invites you to keep a real portfolio and a hypothetical one to compare against.
Two things do cost, every day. Keeping your prices current spends the data provider's quota, and each copilot answer spends tokens on Anthropic's API. Those are the two limits, and they are also — not by coincidence — the two things that make anyone open this again on a Thursday.
Nothing is “unlimited”. Unlimited, on something with a real cost per use, is a promise that breaks itself the day somebody takes it seriously. The allowances are written down instead, and they are generous enough that normal use never meets them.
