What would change, in words
  • HLX would be 24.1% of the money, against 29.8% now. Learn it ›
  • Its share of the risk would go from 62.4% to 54.4%: more of the risk than of the money, because it moves more than the rest or with it. Learn it ›

  • Over this same window, the worst fall from a peak would have been −32.9% instead of −35.1%. Learn it ›
  • The money would be spread like 5.8 equal positions instead of 5.3. Learn it ›

How the money is split

Measured on weekdays: weekend moves are counted on Monday. The total return between two dates is the same either way. Digital assets close at 00:00 UTC and US shares at 16:00 New York time, three to four hours earlier depending on daylight saving. That gap makes the daily correlation between a share and a digital asset read slightly lower than it really is. Learn: why weekdays ›

The solid curve is the most return that mixing these holdings could have given for each level of risk. Its dashed branch is the same risk for less return: starting from the least profitable holding, raising the return at first lowers the risk, because diversifying cancels variance. Point at the chart to read a split, and press a point to choose it.

7 positions. After the change the portfolio would have had 21.2% volatility and returned 15.5% a year, against 23.2% and 16.1% now. The table below lists every point of the chart and its split.

The chart places each split by its blended return: the average of each holding's own annualised return, weighted by the split, which is what the optimiser works with. The table above replays the whole portfolio day by day, so its return and Sharpe ratio can differ. The volatilities agree.

The thin bars under Now and After run from 0 to 100% of the portfolio. The change bars share one scale, in points: right of the line it rose, left of it fell.

Effective positions turns concentration into something readable: a portfolio with 90% in one holding and the rest spread around is equivalent to holding barely more than one position, whatever the names on it are.

Both columns are computed over the same window with the engine that produces every other figure here — the simulated portfolio is not modelled, it is measured. The correlation with the portfolio is the number that decides whether this trade diversifies or just adds more of what you already own: near 1 means it moves with the portfolio, so buying it increases the existing bet rather than spreading it. This is a simulation of consequences, not a recommendation.

This describes consequences; it is not a recommendation to buy or to sell.
